Panjim Peoples
Opposite the Panjim
Inn and prominently visible as you stroll down
the 31st January road is the “Panjim Peoples”.
This Elegant and Romantic
Mansion of 1800's vintage was till
recently home to the Peoples High School, Goa's foremost
primary educational institution and alma mater to many
of the state's prominent citizens.
Now it is a Heritage
Hotel and Art Gallery
quite Unique in Style and Character.
Painstaking Restoration
of the building has brought back some of its Original
Grandeur and helped Recapture the Nostalgia,
Poignance and Aura of the Romantic
Past.
Close your eyes and imagine
that that todays cars and tuk tuks no longer exist and
you can go back to a Romantic era of
old world elegance, of horse drawn
carriages, of ladies in voluminous skirts and gentlemen
in three piece suits who the heat and dust notwithstanding
would have curtseyed or doffed their hats to each other
before moving on.
On the first floor there
are 4 exclusive spacious rooms each about 30-40 square
metres in size. Amenities include Air conditioning,
Cable TV , Electronic Safe and a self contained tea/coffee
making facility.
The rooms are furnished with top quality
antique furniture: Four Poster
Double/Single beds in Rosewood, Almirahs, Divans, dressing
tables, gilded pelmets, original art, Planters chairs
& Lace Curtains.
Modern toilets are worked in
a delicate mosaic and have individual bathtubs.
The ground floor houses
the Gallery Gitanjali showcasing Paintings
by Contemporary Indian and Overseas Artists.
